Angraecum magdalenae Schlechter (1925)

Geographical origin:

A.magdalenae is known to come principally from Mt. Ibity to the south of Antsirabe and from the Itremo.
Growing at altitude of 1700 to 2000m as semi-terrestrial in large colonies on huge, flat boulders with pockets of humus and leaf litter; the roots often partly exposed.
They are never in full sun, but partly shaded by small trees.
The environment in which it grows experience a distinct 5 months dry season during winter. In these conditions it can support light frost

Culture :

Intermediate conditions with strong light.
Some drying off and slight chilling are beneficial to induce next flowering, but not necessary.
This orchid grows well in a semi-terrestrial mix in shallow pots, with care to keep the roots damp but not soggy
A mix of bark, humus, perlite and sphagnum seems to be a good substrate.
